Integrate Emarsys with Fresh Relevance
Integrate Emarsys with Fresh Relevance

Learn to use Fresh Relevance alongside your Emarsys account.

Updated over a week ago

Using a Fresh Relevance messaging channel, you can trigger an event with an Emarsys Automation Program.

This offers flexibility in handling the trigger from Fresh Relevance in Emarsys, such as delaying the trigger, sending SMS instead of email, and more.

Create an API user

You need to create an API user in Emarsys for the Fresh Relevance integration. You might need to ask your Emarsys account administrator to do this.

Create an external event

Fresh Relevance triggers an external event which is then used in an automation program to send the triggered email.

  1. In Emarsys, go to Management > External event.

  2. Select Create External Event.

  3. Note the External Event ID for later use.

Create Emarsys automation program

To create an Automation Program in Emarsys:

  1. Go to Automation > Automation Program.

  2. On the page displaying available automation programs, select Create Program.

  3. Choose Behaviour-focused journeys — React to customer behaviours with event-based journeys and decisions, followed by External Event.

After selecting External Event, a dropdown will appear where you can select the External Event you created earlier. You will then be taken to the Automation Editor to customize the Automation Program.

Customization of the Automation Program is not covered here, but you can find comprehensive documentation on the Emarsys site:

Create email template

To send emails from Fresh Relevance using Emarsys, you need to create an email template and add the Send email node to your Automation Program from the Automation editor page.

For information on creating emails in Emarsys, go to Getting started with email.

Configure the Messaging channel

After completing the above steps, proceed to set up the Emarsys messaging channel within Fresh Relevance:

  1. In Fresh Relevance, expand the User menu, then go to Settings >
Triggers and Messaging integrations > Messaging Provider(s).

  2. Under Set up a new channel, expand the Messaging providers drop-down menu and select Emarsys as your Service Provider

  3. Proceed to configure the channel settings. Learn more about each field in the table below.

Field

Description

Channel Name

Optionally name your channel for easier identification.

Catch-All Email Address

For testing, specify an email to capture outgoing messages, preventing unintended customer communications.

Emarsys External ID Number

Input the ID from the External Event created earlier to link the Automation Program with Fresh Relevance.

API Credentials:

  • API Username

  • API Secret (Password)

Enter the username and password for the Emarsys API user.

Contact Permission Settings:

  • New Contact Permission Behaviour

  • Contact Exists Permission Behaviour

Define subscription statuses for new and existing contacts within Emarsys.

Set up field mapping

Learn more on field mappings on the field mapping help page and use Set up cart and browse abandonment messages for specific merge codes.

After setting up the field mapping, fields added to the mapping are transferred to Emarsys when actions such as sending a Triggered Email or activating an Add To List trigger occur.

For example, if the 'fn', 'ln', and 'email' fields are added to the field mapping, the contact's First Name, Last Name, and Email Address will be transferred to Emarsys when the trigger is actioned.

Create a trigger program

Learn more about trigger programs in Set up trigger programs.

Analytics

To load Fresh Relevance analytics into Emarsys:

  1. Set up a Fresh Relevance analytics channel and select the desired analytics from the Fresh Relevance analytics menu. To find this, expand the User menu and go to Settings > System Configuration > Analytics.

  2. To load analytics data for each contact in Emarsys, create custom fields in Emarsys that correspond to analytics in Fresh Relevance. For example, if you're interested in the "carted value" analytic, create a corresponding field in Emarsys.

    • Go to Management > Field Editor.

    • Select Create Field in the top right corner.

    • Enter the details of your custom field and note the string ID, as you'll need it later for field mapping.

  3. Set up your Analytics channel in Fresh Relevance:

    • Expand the User menu and go to Settings > System Configuration > Analytics.

    • Select the desired Analytics and select Map Analytic to ESP Field.

    • Continue to Analytics ESP Settings to complete the configuration.

  4. Expand the User menu, then go to Settings > Exports > Analytics Export Channel (under Exports), then On the Analytics ESP Settings page:

    • Select "Emarsys" from the dropdown menu and select Next.

    • Enter your API username, API password, and list ID to load analytics data.

    • To allow Fresh Relevance to create new contacts in Emarsys, check the "Create Contacts if They Don't Already Exist" option.

  5. Configure field mappings to match the custom fields you created in Emarsys:

    • Go to Other Settings > Analytics Field Mapping.

    • Edit the value on the right side of the table to match the string ID of the corresponding custom field you created earlier in Emarsys (e.g., "cartedvalue").

You've now set up analytics for Emarsys. To add more analytics, select them in Fresh Relevance as needed. Map each analytic to a custom field in Emarsys by clicking the "Map Analytic to ESP field" button and setting the correct ESP field name on the field mapping page.
