Use marketing rules

Marketing rules give access to the behavioral, transactional and contextual data of your audience in an intuitive drag-and-drop interface.

The power and flexibility of marketing rules let you handle a vast number complex uses cases. You can decide which SmartBlock to show in a dynamic email slot, or which trigger program to place a customer in if they abandon their cart.

Marketing rules provide a simple flowchart with only Yes or No paths. Any series of questions can be asked using configurable rules which lead to a decision.


How to use marketing rules

Marketing rules can be applied to a number of elements within the platform.

To access the rule builder for each element:

SmartBlocks through Slots

  1. Go to Content > Slots

  2. Select the Slot you want to add rules to, then select the Rules icon.

Triggers

  1. Go to Triggers in the left side menu.

  2. Select the trigger you want to add rules to.

or

  1. Go to Triggers in the left side menu

  2. Select the Trigger Programs tab.

  3. Select the Show Options (three dots) menu for the trigger program you want to add rules to, then select the Rules icon. This opens the editor for the associated trigger type.

Experiences

  1. Go to Content > Experiences

  2. Select MANAGE EXPERIENCE RULES.


Add a rule

To add a rule:

  1. Select the Add Rules tab on the left.

  2. Select a rule and drag it over to the decision tree dropzone on the right.

  3. To add a SmartBlock or Experience to the rule, select the Add SmartBlocks/Experience tab and then drag the desired SmartBlock or Experience to the empty dropzone below the rule.

Configure

To configure a rule which has been added:

  1. Select the rule from the decision tree.

  2. In the left side panel, select a value for each of the available rule options.
    The rule name is automatically updated to reflect the options you select.

Combine

To combine rules together:

  1. Drag a new rule over an existing rule to create a rule group.

  2. By default, all rules in the group must be met to display the assigned SmartBlock. To change this behavior, select the rule group heading and select Any in the left side panel.

You can rename or duplicate a rule group using the icons in the top right of the left side panel.

Remove

To remove a rule, or a SmartBlock assigned to a rule, drag it over to the left side panel.

You can then either add a new rule or SmartBlock to the now empty dropzone, or drag it over to the left-hand side if it’s no longer required.

Test

To test a rule:

  1. Select the Test tab on the left.

  2. Enter any details required by the Slot then select TEST RULES to run the rules and display the resulting SmartBlock.
    The decision tree updates to show the result of each rule.

Once you’re happy with your rules, select SAVE in the top right.
