Fresh Relevance integrated SMS

Use Fresh Relevance’s integrated SMS messaging channel as your messaging provider.

Updated over a week ago

The Fresh Relevance integrated SMS messaging channel manages permissions for you in various ways:

  • Data capture forms, to opt-in.

  • Opt-in or opt-out SMS messages.

  • JavaScript events on your website, to opt-in or opt-out.

Before you start

Things you need to know:

  • The Fresh Relevance Support team can set up a phone number for you so customers can message the number to opt-in or opt-out.

  • IF you want to receive SMS replies, you must contact Support to have a number allocated to your account.

SMS channel setup

  1. In your Fresh Relevance account, expand the User menu and go to Settings > Triggers and Messaging integrations.

  2. Select Messaging Provider(s).

  3. Expand the Service provider drop-down menu and select Integrated SMS.

  4. Select NEXT.

  5. Enter a Channel Name and Catch-All mobile number.

    • The Channel Name is a friendly name to help you recognize what the channel is in the messaging channels list. If this field is left blank it defaults to the messaging provider name: Integrated SMS.

    • A Catch-All mobile number can be entered to receive all SMS messages instead of your customers during testing. After you have finished testing, this number must be removed.

  6. Enter the Max Length of your SMS messages.

Messages longer than this are truncated.

  7. Enter an SMS From Name or Number.

    • This must be a mobile number or String value between 2-11 characters of 0-9, a-z, A-Z, hyphen, underscore, full-stop and space.

    • If you want to use a number, it must start with + and country code.

  8. Enter an Unsubscribe Match String.

    • If inbound messages start with this string (case insensitive) then the visitor is marked as unsubscribed from SMS, for example, media.sms.perm = false.

  9. Enter a Subscribe Match String.

    • If inbound messages start with this string (case insensitive) then the person is marked as subscribed to SMS, for example, media.sms.perm = true.

Send permissions for integrated SMS

Opt-ins and opt-outs received by SMS messages update the SMS marketing permission data field maintained by Fresh Relevance for each visitor.

Learn more about marketing permissions in Set marketing permissions with data fields.

There are various options for opt-outs:

  1. Dedicated virtual mobile number, for example: message "STOP" to +44771234567

  2. Shared short code, for example: message "MYKEYWORD STOP" to 12345

  3. Dedicated short code, for example: message "STOP" to 12345

Costs

Options one and two are relatively low cost, while option three is much more expensive. For further information, contact your Customer Success representative.

Triggered SMS messages

If you are only sending triggered SMS messages, we recommend you use option one.

Short code messages

If you want to use an off-line call-to-action such as "message YES to 12345" then we recommend you use options two or three.
