With campaign-based identification, when a contact clicks through from one of your Dotdigital marketing emails to your website, Fresh Relevance can use the unique tracking markers included in the campaign links to identify the visitor and unify your data between the two platforms.
The identifier for each contact is tracked using a dm_i
parameter in the link URLs of your Dotdigital marketing emails.

Tracking your site visitors in this way means that you can provide an immediately relevant and personalised experience. You also get a more complete picture of a visitor’s behaviours and interactions with your business.
Before you start
Things you need to know:
You must have completed the initial API user connection between your Dotdigital and Fresh Relevance accounts before you can set up campaign-based identification.
Learn more in Connect Dotdigital and Fresh Relevance.
Campaign-based identification can only be linked to a single Dotdigital API user per Fresh Relevance account.
If you have requested to add any domains to your tracking exclusion list in Dotdigital, then campaign-based identification can’t work for these domains.
Learn more in the section Tracking exclusion.
Set up campaign-based identification
In Fresh Relevance, expand the User menu in the bottom left, then go to Settings > Triggers and messaging integrations > Dotdigital API users.
Select CAMPAIGN-BASED IDENTIFICATION in the top left.
Expand the Email provider or FTP drop-down menu and select Dotdigital.
Select NEXT.
You see pre-populated API user details. Check that these are correct, and update them if necessary.
Select CONNECT.
The campaign-based identification status is now confirmed as Connected. If you need to, you can return to the Campaign-based identification page to pause the connection or change the linked API user.
