Enable high-resolution images in recommendation SmartBlocks

Enable high-resolution images in product recommendation SmartBlocks for sharper visuals in emails.

Updated yesterday

Fresh Relevance supports enhanced image quality in email product recommendation SmartBlocks. This feature ensures that product images, calls to action (CTAs), and other visual elements appear sharp and clear across all devices, including high-density displays like Retina screens.

In emails, Fresh Relevance generates the entire recommendation block as a single image—not HTML. On high-resolution devices, these images can appear pixelated or blurry, which can affect the visual quality and user experience.

When high-resolution images are enabled, your SmartBlocks render with greater clarity and a more professional appearance in email clients that support high-DPI rendering.

Before you start

Things you need to know:

  • Fresh Relevance generates a high-resolution version of the SmartBlock image when this feature is enabled.

  • Not supported for web SmartBlocks or other types of content.

  • Avoid mixing high- and standard-resolution SmartBlocks in the same email, as this can lead to inconsistent visuals.

  • Fresh Relevance indicates when a SmartBlock is using high-resolution images and notifies you if there’s a mismatch.

Requirements

For high-resolution images to work, your SmartBlock must meet the following conditions:

  1. Defined width – it must have a defined width.

    • All default SmartBlock layouts include this by default.

    • To define the SmartBlock width, go to SmartBlock Edit mode > Design > Core settings > SmartBlock Width.

  2. SmartBlock type – it must be a product recommendation used in emails.

Enable high-resolution images

To enable high resolution images in a SmartBlock:

  1. Go to Content > SmartBlocks.

  2. Select an existing SmartBlock or create a new one.
Learn how in Create and edit SmartBlocks.

  3. Select Edit, then go to the Properties tab.

  4. Enable the High-res images toggle.

  5. Select Save.
Once enabled, you should see a noticeable improvement in image clarity compared to standard resolution images.
